Numbered, and every figure carries the day it was read.

Edition one · the rails

Money in and out

Six routes carry betting money in Ghana and three of them are wallets. The figures below are what each bookmaker publishes about its own cashier, read on the days recorded against it. The ceiling that actually stops a large win is set by the Bank of Ghana rather than by any bookmaker, and it is the last section on this page because it is the one most likely to be news.

The rails

Carried by, out of the nine bookmakers whose cashier this edition could read. The rest are not in the denominator.
Rail Books Acceptance Withdrawal side
MTN Mobile Money 9 of 9 universal instant below each operator's auto-approval threshold
Telecel Cash formerly Vodafone Cash 9 of 9 universal same as MoMo at the same operator
AirtelTigo Money 9 of 9 universal but smallest same as MoMo at the same operator
Bank transfer 1 of 9 common but secondary one to two business days, slower than mobile money everywhere both are published
Debit or credit card 3 of 9 rare, deposit only Deposit only
Cryptocurrency 1 of 9 one licensed casino, absent from every licensed sportsbook no published time

Four books trading in Ghana publish no cashier this edition could open: 1xBet, Melbet, 22Bet and Betwinner. They carry nothing in the table above and they are kept out of its denominator, because counting them as absent from a rail would turn a reading failure of ours into a fact about them.

The levy that is gone, and the tax that is gone with it

The Electronic Transfer Levy was cut from 1.5% to 1% at the start of 2023 and then repealed outright on 2 April 2025, and the GRA told charging entities to stop deducting the same day and refund anything taken after it. No government levy sits on a mobile money transfer today.

The withholding on winnings went the same way. A 10% withholding on gross winnings ran from 2023 until 2 April 2025. A licensed Ghanaian operator therefore pays out in full today, and the repeal date has to travel with the sentence: a reader who last placed a bet in 2024 had ten per cent taken off the gross, and telling them Ghana has always been tax-free would be wrong about their own experience.

The ceiling nobody in this trade sets

The real ceiling on a large betting withdrawal, and it is set by the central bank rather than by any bookmaker. A minimum-KYC wallet cannot receive more than GH₵3,000 in a day, more than GH₵10,000 in a month, or hold more than GH₵5,000, so a big win has to be split or the wallet upgraded. The monthly cap is the one that actually binds: splitting a large payout across consecutive days does not get round it, and only an upgrade to Medium or Enhanced KYC removes it, because monthly value is unlimited at both of those tiers. Enhanced KYC is the full-KYC ceiling: GH₵25,000 a day and a GH₵75,000 balance.

Bank of Ghana wallet tiers, effective 1 March 2024. A blank monthly cell means no monthly limit at that tier.
Tier A day A month Balance
Minimum KYC GH₵3,000 GH₵10,000 GH₵5,000
Medium KYC GH₵15,000 no limit GH₵40,000
Enhanced KYC GH₵25,000 no limit GH₵75,000

A punter on Minimum KYC who wins more than GH₵10,000 in a month cannot receive it into that wallet however fast the bookmaker pays, and no column in the standings above would tell them so. That is why this section is on the page.

Money between networks

Money moves between MTN, Telecel and AirtelTigo wallets: GhIPSS runs the switch behind all three, and it carries wallet-to-wallet transfers across networks as well as wallet-to-bank, bank-to-wallet and wallet-to-e-zwich. A punter reaches it from the mobile money short code they already use, so the network a payout arrives on is rarely the network the money has to stay on.

Questions this edition is asked

What is the fastest way to be paid by a Ghanaian bookmaker?
Mobile money, at every book in this edition that publishes a position. The quickest reported figure among the numbered books is 2 minutes reported, at SportyBet. Bank transfer is slower everywhere both are published, and cards are a deposit route rather than a withdrawal one.
Is there a tax on betting winnings in Ghana?
Not today. A 10 per cent withholding on gross winnings ran from 2023 and was repealed on 2 April 2025, so a licensed operator pays out in full now. The repeal date matters: anything a reader remembers from before April 2025 was taxed, and any page saying Ghanaian winnings have always been untaxed is wrong about every year most people can recall. The 20 per cent on gaming revenue that remains is an operator obligation and does not come out of a payout.
Does the E-Levy still come off a mobile money transfer?
The Electronic Transfer Levy was cut from 1.5% to 1% at the start of 2023 and then repealed outright on 2 April 2025, and the GRA told charging entities to stop deducting the same day and refund anything taken after it. No government levy sits on a mobile money transfer today.
What happens when a win is larger than my wallet allows?
The practical consequence is that the tier on the wallet, not the bookmaker, is what a very large payout runs into, and the monthly ceiling is the one that binds because splitting a payout across days does not get past it.
Does it matter which network the wallet is on?
Money moves between MTN, Telecel and AirtelTigo wallets: GhIPSS runs the switch behind all three, and it carries wallet-to-wallet transfers across networks as well as wallet-to-bank, bank-to-wallet and wallet-to-e-zwich. A punter reaches it from the mobile money short code they already use, so the network a payout arrives on is rarely the network the money has to stay on.
